Pink Pearl
The Gladstone Hotel
1214 Queen St West, Toronto
December 8, 2011 to January 8, 2012

Opening reception Thursday, December 8, 2011 from 7pm to 10pm!

About Pink Pearl:

Print media is often characterized by a material emphasis on subtraction and addition. As a dug hole is mirrored by the mound of dirt it unearths, any removal of material from the surface of a print matrix implies an accumulation elsewhere. What meaning can be found in those liminal spaces between minus and plus?  Works in PINK PEARL move past surface engagements with etched plates, burned screens, grained stones, carved wood and cut paper to explore the concepts of erasure and transcendence. Using print as a primary strategy, artists in PINK PEARL create 2-dimensional works on paper, artist books, material arts, sculpture, and animation.

ROCK AND ROLL 3: A Celebration of Stone Lithography
Function 13 Gallery
154 Augusta Avenue, Toronto
Exhibition runs from April 6th, 2011 to April 13th 2011

Opening Reception is Friday, April 8th, 2011 from 7pm to 10:30pm.

“This annual printmaking show celebrates the creative process of stone lithography. It features students, alumni, and guest artists mostly from the OCADU, however this year we are expanding for the first time to feature some Montreal artists. The show explores stone lithography as a contemporary vehicle for artistic methodology. More experienced printers will be working collaboratively with artists to help them achieve a new realization of their work in the context of the medium. We are also in the process of creating ways to help demystify the process in order for the public to have a greater understanding of the means of production.”

Short Surveys

A Solo Exhibition by Noelle Wharton-Ayer.

Culturshoc
1205 Queen Street West
Opening reception Thursday, April 1st, 2010
7pm to 11pm
Free admission
Artist will be in house

Inspired by our often-anxious relationships with nature, the work featured in Short Surveys stands as a testament to our innate desires to examine and catalogue our natural environments. Large paper-based works tap into fragmented encounters with a space and our effort to set up shelter against its insistent presence. Utilizing print-based mediums, layers are constructed, taken apart and reconstituted, reflecting the equally mutable process of recollection, the final lens through which we see the world.

An artist specializing in the areas of print media and drawing, Noelle Wharton-Ayer focuses on ways in which non-traditional techniques such as hand and machine sewing, paper and fabric manipulation can be combined with traditional printmaking techniques. Short Surveys is a continuation of her exploration of themes regarding space and memory; in particular, the ways we experience specific locations and areas of transition.
